As the former Public School Board Trustee and former Chair of the York Region District School Board, Juanita brings experience, knowledge and a proven track record for getting things done. Juanita has championed community issues through collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including resident associations, parent networks, community and faith organizations, administration staff, and elected officials from all levels of government in Markham and beyond.
As a Trustee, Juanita has continually advocated applying the equity lens in programs and services within our schools; she has tirelessly worked to increase engagement between schools and communities, ensuring that parents always have a voice at the table.
For over 25 years, Juanita has lived in Ward 7 and continues to be an active and engaged resident of Markham. Being the most diverse Ward of Markham and given Juanita's community involvement, she is in the best position to advocate for the diverse interests of our community. Given her work with newcomers, youth and seniors, Juanita has a deeper understanding of the needs and challenges faced by many in this community. She has received several recognitions for her service through awards, including Queen's Diamond Jubilee Award for Service, conferred by Hon. Michael Chan.
Juanita's influence with elected representatives, including municipal, provincial and federal leaders, complemented by her proven track record and ability to bring people together, equates to a strong voice and representation for Ward 7 at Markham's City Council.
